Recurring Commission vs One-Time Payout: The Math Every Partner Should See

Ten salons on a one-time payout is a good month. Ten salons on recurring commission is a salary that keeps arriving. Here is the actual math, month by month.

Referral programs usually offer one of two things: a one-time bounty when a customer signs up, or a percentage of what that customer pays every month. They look similar in month one and completely different by month twelve.

The comparison

Assume you sign two salons per month and each subscription is worth ₹1,000 per month. A one-time program might pay ₹1,000 per signup. A recurring program at 40% pays ₹400 per salon, every month.

MonthSalons referredOne-time modelRecurring at 40%
12₹2,000₹800
36₹2,000₹2,400
612₹2,000₹4,800
1224₹2,000₹9,600
One-time income resets every month. Recurring income accumulates on top of what you already built.

What tiers do to the curve

The BookMySalon tiers change the multiplier, not just the base. Crossing 11 active clients moves you from 40% to 50% on your entire book of business — including the salons you signed in month one.

monthly_income = active_clients × subscription_value × tier_rate

10 clients × ₹1,000 × 0.40 = ₹4,000
11 clients × ₹1,000 × 0.50 = ₹5,500 ← one extra client, +₹1,500
31 clients × ₹1,000 × 0.60 = ₹18,600
The eleventh salon is worth almost four times the tenth. Plan your pipeline around tier boundaries.

How to plan your pipeline

  1. Set a tier target, not a rupee target — 'reach 11 active clients' is easier to act on.
  2. Track active clients, not signups. Only paying salons count towards a tier.
  3. Check in with every salon you refer in their first month; early success is what keeps them subscribed.
  4. Ask each happy salon owner for one introduction. Referral chains are the cheapest pipeline you will ever have.
